The U.S. Air Force Space Command Space and Missile Systems Center’s Development and Test Wing at Kirtland Air Force Base has awarded a $49 million contract to provide a near-space communication system. The story was reported in the New Mexico Business Weekly.
Space Data Corp. in Chandler, Ariz., won the contract. Near space is defined as 65,000 to 135,000 feet above Earth — higher than airplanes fly, but lower than satellites.

BELEN – Economic Development Secretary Rick Homans and Mayor Ronnie Torres today announced that LoPresti Fury will be relocating their sport aircraft manufacturing facility from Vero Beach, Florida to Belen, New Mexico. The company plans on building a 100,000 square foot facility at the Belen Alexander Municipal Airport and creating over 300 new jobs.

Eclipse Aviation, manufacturer of the revolutionary Eclipse 500 very light jet (VLJ), announced that the Eclipse 500 test fleet has amassed 1,700 total flight hours on the path to FAA certification, with 700 hours accumulated in the last three months alone. Completing testing at an unprecedented rate, the company projects it will achieve FAA certification by the end of this quarter and EASA certification by the end of the year. Advent’s new production facility will be located in Mesa del Sol, a brand new 12,000 acre development and solar cluster in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Advent, an Albuquerque-based manufacturer of advanced solar cells and modules, will ship its first products to customers later this year from its pilot line, and expects to be in full production at its new facility in 2007.
